Too Close To Home

Sometimes the truth lies closer than you think. The compelling and heart-rending new novel from the Sunday Times Top Ten bestselling author of Behind Closed Doors.

Jenna and Jack Moore have moved their family to Wales for a fresh start. For vivacious, happy-go-lucky fifteen-year-old Paige the future is full of promise.

But suddenly everything changes. Paige becomes more and more withdrawn. The closeness she once shared with her mother a distant memory.

It then becomes clear that Jack has secrets too from CutterWelderMaestro. Preoccupied with her younger children, her husband’s fidelity and their fledgling publishing company, Jenna doesn’t realise the extent of her eldest daughter’s unhappiness until the unthinkable happens.

And the nightmare is only just beginning…

  • Helen Plimmer says:

Im not much of a reader and cant remember the last time i picked up a book. Deciding to rectify this im thrilled that the first book i have read in a long time was as amazing as this. I found myself getting lost in this book and struggled to put it down. What a author to choose to encourage me to carry on reading more books. Now just to decide which Susan Lewis book to go for next.
Thankyou susan for gwtting me right back into reading :) xx

  • Cynthia Briffa says:

I also read this book and can’t believe that such bullying goes on in the social media these days. It’s a wake up call to all those parents of teenage children to keep an eye on them and make sure they are happy at school.
    Best wishes to you Susan.
    Cynthia.

It’s so sad, isn’t it, to think of innocent people, children in particular, being bullied in this way. It was my reason for writing the book, to put it into a family situation, let the reader get to know about the family and to try and feel for how devastating this sort of persecution can be. I’m so glad to hear that it resonated with you. I believe it has with a lot of people – what’s really shocking is how many children fall victim to it.
      Thank you for your review.
with my very best wishes to you
      Susan

I just finished reading the truth about u ..I understood exactly what each character felt given that it’s so realistic and close to a personal experience with my hubby. Thank you, Ann (I’m from Namibia, Africa)

what can I say – another truly wonderful read – I was so engrossed in this book that I just couldn’t put it down. I would say to anyone pick up a Susan Lewis book and you will not be disappointed.

  • Jean Fischer says:

As a busy mother to a wonderful 15 year old daughter I stepped hesitantly into this book, fearful of what it was going to deal with. Once captured by the story and characters I was unable to stop reading, even abandoning a rare early night because I couldn’t leave Paige and Jenna until I knew they were ok! This is a wonderful book, carefully researched and full of action and dramatic dialogue. It exudes energy and emotion! It’s the kind of story, with the type of characters, that stay with you long after you’ve put the book down. Apart from a very enjoyable read, I know that I have taken from it a reminder that I need to really listen to my daughter no matter how busy I think I am. Thank you Susan, as always a book that captures both heart and mind.

Thank you Jean for such lovely words. I’m so pleased you decided to give it a try, and felt it to be a worthwhile journey when you did. It’s such an awful situation that can crop at any time and anywhere. Sometimes kids don’t even realise they’re bullying, they just seem to think it’s OK to post nasty things about others online. Quite how to overcome it is beyond me, my only contribution it to try and show how incredibly dangerous the consequences can be.

  • Sue Redfern says:

Excellent book tackling issues of bullying and marital break up. Cried more than once listening to it beautifully read by Karen Cass.
The first Susan Lewis book I’ve read, definitely won’t be the last. Just hoping I can find them on audio books :)

    • Susan Lewis says:

  • Julia Pick says:

Couldn’t put this book down. Brilliantly written and had me in tears. As a mum to a 13 year old boy it’s every parents worst nightmare to think of the person you cherish so much going through this alone. It’s the first book I’ve read by you and certainly won’t be the last.

    • Susan Lewis says:

Thank you so much for this Julia. I’m so glad you enjoyed this book, if enjoy is the right word :) I really hope you get as much satisfaction from any others you read.

  • Caroline Tomkins says:

Brilliant! Had me in tears. Was difficult to read in places but only because of the fantastic research that had you really understanding what life as a teenager today is like. It’s all too easy for us parents to take our eye off the ball, and with the national press reporting that 50% of all high school students experience bullying this is a must read book for all teachers, teaching assistants and parents of teenagers.

  • Val says:

Such a good book the topic of bullying and parental separation really hit home to me it touched my heart how these things affect young people and the courage these younger people have to et up each day :) I was in tears by the end another amazing book from my favourite author xxx

  • Sarah Purser says:

Yet again another book by Susan Lewis that I couldn’t put down!! Some parts of this book I felt was uncomfortable to read but only because it was so true to life especially about the teenage world! Loved it! Thank you for bringing a well known problem to light.
